MTNL Launches Mobile TV in Delhi
The speed to technology deployment is picking up day by day. Not long ago, we were hypothesizing about the possibility of Mobile TV implementation in India. And today, the news came that MTNL has launched Mobile TV in Delhi already.
The launch will see the subscribers viewing seven channels on their GPRS enabled handsets. The handsets must be compatible with the Symbian operating system
A minimum of 5 free channels can be accessed by giving Rs.50 per month. Additional channels can be viewed for an extra fee.
The phones must have at least 2MB of memory and have the Real Player application.
Just a few days back, Zee had recommended obtaining of 3G licenses necessary for operators who want to offer Mobile TV service. It claimed, that allowing the cellular operators to show Mobile TV without the requirement of 3G license give them an unfair advantage over the TV channel broadcasters in the Mobile TV business. With MTNL's launch, it's clear that all those requests have fallen on deaf ears.
